1. Parents in Reception Room

Parents are requested to stay in the reception area and enjoy our fresh coffee, 4 daily newspapers, magazines and WIFI.

This allows your child the normal experience of separating from the parent and receives the exclusive attention of Dr. Eberhardt and staff. This is the first step of becoming a good dental patient.

2. X-rays

Rather than bombarding your child with needless radiation, we routinely take as few x-rays as we feel appropriate for your child. Most pediatric offices do them every six months. Our 35 years of experience doesn’t agree with that and very few of our patients require this.

The benefit to your child is less accumulative radiation. The more radiation in early childhood, it has been suggested, the more absorption. It just makes sense!

3. Sedation and Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)

95% of Children having procedures in our office such as fillings, extractions and cleanings do not require the crutch of sedation. We want the child fully awake and aware, that way we can teach them about the procedures being uncomfortable, but no big deal.

This benefits your child by being in a completely safe environment and also that he can learn about the procedure. And most importantly, walk out on their own and be happy that “I did it!”

4. Early Orthodontic Treatment

Twenty years ago we treated every “crooked” tooth in sight. Now we have learned in our practice that 80% or more of children with misaligned teeth can be better treated if we wait for all of the permanent teeth to erupt.

The benefit to your child is that they have to “go through it” (expander, braces) only once. The result is a beautiful, healthy smile in a shorter period of time.

5. Cleaning the Teeth

Dr. Eberhardt does the dental cleanings on each child. He prefers to do that for 2 reasons:

A. He can better manage the child’s behavior (good or bad) and do it more efficiently.

B. This allows him to examine each and every surface of the teeth more carefully. Sort of like waxing a car or floor. You can see every blemish!

The benefit to your child is that he learns to become a good dental patient forever with appropriate behavior.

6. Duel Specialization

Dr. Eberhardt is both specially trained in dentistry for children (Pediatric Dentistry) and Orthodontics. Every child is being constantly monitored for cavities, gum problems, braces, other growth, and development problems that may occur in children.

The benefit for your child is that there is coherency and streamlined treatment that is inherently more efficient and not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

7. Appointment Hours

We treat most of our children between 6:30 a.m. and noon, when we are freshest and they are. We work practically every school holiday.

This benefits your child by having a procedure done incredibly efficient without a lot of fanfare. It also eliminates them from missing school.

8. Sealants

We seal only teeth that are highly susceptible to decay, usually the permanent molars. We do not seal baby teeth as it seems unnecessary and is a form of over treatment. We abhor that.

The benefit is your child is obvious- only necessary treatment.

9. Therapeutic Conservative

This is the way Dr. Eberhardt describes himself. The wise physician knows when to prescribe and when not to and sometimes it takes skill not to apply remedies. It takes little to muddy a stream. You can’t make it grow clear by trying to, only by leaving it alone.

The benefit to your child- again, only necessary treatment

10. Elliptical Trainer

We have installed a first class (like the rest of our office!) elliptical trainer in our clinic for our older patients. While they are waiting for a procedure, they’ll be able to exercise away any anxieties. This is brand new (January 07) and we’ll see how it goes. Also, the staff will be pounding away on it during their break times.

The Benefit to the child is hopefully obvious.
